  • Condition: Overall magnificent set with some issues that is more forgivable due to extreme rarity of set. The rooks have chipping on the crest of their crowns. The white bishops and one green bishop are not original and have been replaced with smaller size onyx substitutes. The green queen is not original and has been substituted with similar size green onyx piece. One green pawn has been substituted with smaller size green onyx pawn. One white knight is not original and has been substituted with smaller size white onyx piece. Finally one original green onyx knight has been repaired with top half glued back on and it shows a crack line. Overall still magnificent to display and play.

    Gorgeous and stunning large Italian Staunton onyx chess set with magnificent 20 inch board with 2 inch playing surface squares.  Please read important condition described.  I will also include with the set an assortment of substitute onyx playing pieces as optional for any chipped pieces that are not original and are different.  This is an extremely rare Italian Staunton set all of top quality carving in rare large size.  The king measures 3.75 inches tall with about a 1.5 inch round base and the pawns measure 2.25 inches tall.  It is all magnificently carved and polished stone that you are not likely to find another like it.  Please see my other rare chess set collectibles listings for sale.
