Description
Mary Stuart Queen of Scots Metal Chess Set w/ Burl Wood Board. Born during the Reformation, Queen Mary lived a controversial life during a time of religious turmoil when Protestantism and Catholicism fought for control. Linked to a plot to assassinate her cousin Queen Elizabeth I of England, she was eventually executed. This is a large chess set with a king that measures 3.75 inches tall. Cast from solid zinc using the age-old lost-wax casting process, you will love the way these substantial pieces feel when playing. The pieces are brass and nickel plated, followed by several layers of lacquer to prevent tarnishing and keep them beautiful. With a little rubbing the pieces gain a highly polished shine beautiful in a display case or formal room. The board is mahogany, mahogany burl, and maple, with rich patterns and color. Squares are 1.575" and the overall board 17" x 17"
